Getting around in Dubai: Transportation Guide
Dubai has good ground infrastructure and getting around by road is usually quite easy. Most hotels can help you arrange transportation as needed. Multi-lane highways connect Dubai to other emirates in the UAE and three bridges and a tunnel link the two main districts of Bur Dubai and Deira.
Renting a Car: Dubai is home to a multitude of car-rental companies, both local and international. Customers can hire a car with a valid international driving license, credit card and passport. Most visitors without an international driving license may obtain a temporary local driving license as long as they hold a valid national license. Driving in Dubai and the UAE is on the right side of the road.
Taxis: Taxis are the most convenient means of transportation for tourists and visitors in Dubai. A number of metered taxi companies operate on a 24-hour basis in Dubai and the strict rules on meter-use eliminate the hassle of haggling over the fare with cab drivers. The fare for hailed taxis generally starts at AED 3 (or 3.50 at night) and at AED 6 for pick-ups (AED 7 from 10pm to 6am). Some contacts:
